Former Salem City President Virginia Stapleton Launches Campaign for Oregon State Senate District 11
SALEM, OR – Today, former Salem City Council President Virginia Stapleton announced her candidacy for the Oregon State Senate in District 11. As a lifelong Oregonian and middle class working mom Stapleton is running for State Senate to deliver solutions for Marion County families struggling with rising costs and cuts to essential services while the billionaires and big corporations get more tax breaks.
“Working families in Oregon are doing everything right—working hard, raising kids, paying taxes—but still can’t get ahead,” Stapleton said. “Meanwhile, Republican politicians are stripping away our healthcare access and taking away critical resources that our students, seniors and families rely on. Oregonians deserve better.”
On the City Council she led efforts to improve quality of life in our community by taking action to address our homelessness crisis, build more affordable and middle housing, and improve our transportation systems.
“In the State Senate, I’ll continue to put people over politics and prioritize real solutions to bring down costs for families, protect healthcare, solve our housing crisis, and fully fund our public schools," said Stapleton.
Stapleton closed her announcement with a call to action: “Radical political extremism has put our country in chaos, and Oregon families are paying the price. I’m running because we need leaders who will stand up, speak out, and deliver. I won’t sit on the sidelines while working families fall behind. I believe in the strength of our community, together we can build a future of opportunity for all of us.”
